In 2012, Dr. Rudi Hoffman and Dr. Garofita Hoffman, lifelong animal lovers and veterinarians realized that the situation with animal welfare in Romania is really bad and decided to create a project called The Dog Rescue Romania in the capital, Bucharest.

The Dog Rescue Romania project was created out of love for all animals and out of pity for stray dogs on the streets in Romania. Almost without any support and very little funds, both doctors have managed to create a project that is highly respected among animal welfare community from all over Europe. Despite rapid growth, the project still needs support from active animal lovers, as it does not receive any subsidies or help from the Romanian government.

The Dog Rescue Romania is made of several facilities:
• The shelter in Bucharest and Braila has enough space for as much as 700 – 800 dogs. Both shelters work only with stray dogs and provide food, shelter, medical treatment and socialization for the dogs;

• The Dog Rescue Romania veterinarian clinic in Bucharest takes care of the most urgent cases of abuse, injury, infection or other medical issues. Specialists at the clinic are able to perform bone surgery, plastic surgery, vaccination, neutering, hematology and urinal tests, medical examinations and snap-tests (4DX, leishmania), echography and dental procedures. They also have a pet ambulance called Turbo Pet, which provides unique opportunity to save dogs that no one can bring to the shelter.

The shelter owners and volunteers are the people, who are 100% dedicated to their work and are ready to help any dog in trouble. That, and the number of pets living in the sanctuaries makes this organization’s shelters the biggest in Romania.

The shelters survive only with the help of other animal lovers, so if you want to aid the shelter in making the situation with stray dogs in the country better, help them out!
