Vrchlabí
In this webcam you can see the roundabout road and part of the city of Vrchlabí, located on the Labe River near the Krkonoše massif in the Czech Republic.
The most important attraction of Vrchlabí, from where the online broadcast is conducted, is the city Krkonoše Museum. In one of the halls of the museum is recreated a mountain river with live fish.
The central street of Vrchlabí online, is called as the nearest mountain range – Krkonošská Street. There is the palace of Krzysztof Gendorf, the founder of the village in this webcam. According to the information, he was a rather influential person at the Czech court, whom some rulers listened to. Only Krzysztof was allowed to develop mines in the local mountains. His palace was rebuilt in the late 16th – early 17th centuries in the Renaissance style. Nowadays, it houses the local officials’ offices.
In the center of Vrchlabí, whose road is clearly visible online, there is the main square of the city – Peace Square (Miru) with a traditional plague pillar. Not far from it stands the neo-Gothic church of St. Lawrence. This temple looks very festive thanks to the high bell tower with a sharp spire. Nearby there is the city hall with a clock tower and a small bell.
Outside the city of Vrchlabí, where this online camera is located, there are many excellent ski resorts and cross-country trails, as well as bike paths and hiking trails. It is convenient to climb Mount Žalý along a fairly simple track or chair lift and admire the surroundings from the only stone observation tower in the Krkonoše Mountains.
Of the religious monuments in Vrchlabí, part of which is shown in real time live camera, worth to be mentioned the Baroque Augustan Monastery with the Krkonoše Museum “Stone and Life” exposition, Renaissance castle of 1546, Dean’s Church of St. Lawrence and three historical houses of the 17th and 18th centuries with Krkonoše Museum expositions.
From events of the city great interest for both locals and tourists has a “week of crafts” and the “Krkonoše Beer Festival” in August.
No doubt, one of the key attractions of the city shown online is a Renaissance Vrchlabí Castle, built in 1545 – 1549 years in the northern castles style. At the very beginning of its history, the fortress was surrounded by a water moat and three falling bridges. In the first half of the 19th century, the moat was trapped. The original octagonal towers with onion-shaped domes from all four corners of the castle have survived to this day. The citadel was restored in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is surrounded by a large English natural park with rare species of plants and artificial ponds. There is also a hiking trail in the park. Now the city administration is working in Vrchlabí castle. Only the hall is open for tourists.
