Istvan Dobo Square

István Dobó Square on our online webcam is located in the heart of the Hungarian city of Eger – its historic center. The square got its name in honor of the famous military István Dobo, who gained fame thanks to the defense of the Eger fortress from the Turkish invasions in 1552. In the early 20th century, a monument of the hero István Debo was placed on the square in our live broadcast. Later, the sculpture, representing the moments of defense of the fortress, was added to the composition. There is a town hall on the square with two beautiful sculptural groups of horses. To feel comfortable stay on the Dobo Square there are benches that are clearly visible in our online webcam.

Eger

The small town of Eger with our live broadcast is very popular due to its curative thermal springs, delicious wine, an ancient castle and other historic buildings. Eger is chosen by those who want to enjoy their rest and relax in thermal SPA, taste great local wines, listen to the organ. There are many complexes for taking therapeutic baths with thermal water in the city.

Besides the rest and health care, Eger with our online camera is rich in attractions also: 13th century fortress with a picturesque city panorama. There is the Bishop’s Palace with the Istvan Dobo Museum – the square of his name is in our web camera broadcast. Guests of Eger appreciate the most north-western Turkish minaret, built in the early 17th century. There is a cross on the top of the minaret – a symbol of the victory of the Christian faith over Islam. Worth to visit the Eger Cathedral, Geza Gardoni theatre, St. Anthony of Padua church. There are very interesting excursions to unusual caves near Eger.

The most popular tour is to “Valley of beautiful women” (Szepasszony-volgy) – a place surrounded by small houses. Each house is a restaurant of a separate winery. Producers of wines from around the region offer to try the wonderful Eger wines.

The climate of Eger is moderately continental. Winter is mild, there are no frosts. The temperature is about -3 C. In summer it’s hot in Eger. Sometimes the air warms up to +35 C, but at night it falls to +20 C. Spring and autumn are moderately warm. Precipitation are very seldom. The best time to visit Eger is from May to September.
