Charterhouse of St. Giacomo
In our online stream camera you can see one of the oldest well preserved religious buildings on the island of Capri - the Charterhouse of St. Giacomo of 1371.
In the middle of the 16th century, the monastery in our webcam was attacked by pirates. So, it was decided to build a watchtower to the charterhouse.
Until 1636, the San Giacomo, from where our live broadcast is conducted, was owned by the French, using the complex as barracks. Till the period of 1898 the monastery served as a military prison.
A serious restoration of the charterhouse in our webcam was started in 1927.

Currently, part of the building online has been placed at the disposal of the Capri Classical High School. Exhibitions are often held here.
The Charterhouse of St. Giacomo, where the live camera is located, is not just a religious building, but also an ancient fortress.
The monastery, well shown in a live stream, has well preserved baroque frescoes.
Since 1976, the fortress in online camera has been hosting a museum with famous German artist of Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach works collection. He lived on Capri Island in the beginning of 20th century.
To enter in San Giacomo better through a gigantic entrance leading to the Luigi Bladiere library and the Church of San Giacomo of 1690. Having enjoyed the baroque frescoes, it is convenient to go to the park and the monastery gardens in our webcam. Further you can see the Large Monastery - the place where the monks lived. Now in this building there is a high school. Nearby there is the 15th Century Small Monastery, hosting open-air concerts.
The Charterhouse of St. Giacomo, shown online, is one of the main historical sights of Capri Island.
