Theatre Square, Annie Of Tharau FountainKlaipeda , Lithuania
Theatre square is situated in the heart of Klaipeda. Facing the Theatre stands a sculpture known as “Annie of Tharau”. The statue is a central piece of a fountain dedicated to Simon Dach – one of the most famous figures of the city. Dach, born in Klaipeda, which at that moment was called Memel, became famous with his songs, hymns and poems, one of which was “Annie of Tharau”, written in 1637.
The original statue was built in 1912, but disappeared before World War Two. The copy of the original stature was bebuilt in 1989 by local artists and was put in the centre of the fountain.
