IJ river

There is a beautiful view in a webcam of the IJ River, the former bay and the main waterway of Amsterdam.
In the past, the IJ River, shown on a live camera, was a long and narrow bay in Zuiderzee. The river, where the live broadcast comes from, stretches from east to west, from the capital of the Netherlands to Velsen. At the end of the 16th century, the entrance to IJ Bay, which you see online, from the North Sea was practically inaccessible due to sand deposits. Later, thanks to many years of efforts, Amsterdam got a direct connection with the North Sea. From the sea were built gateways at the entrance of the canal, and a new seaport of IJmuiden has appeared. Also, a new port from Amsterdam was built.

The capital of the Netherlands, the city of Amsterdam, whose main river is shown in an online webcam, is divided into many districts. The most popular of them is the Center with its historical quarters: Old (Oudezijds), where the Oude kerk church and the Red Light District, New (Nieuwezijds) with the church Niekerk (New Church) of 1408 and Dam Square with the royal palace. These two areas are surrounded by the canals of the Grachtengordel quarter, a UNESCO heritage site. Here are the canals of: Herengracht (Lord's), Prinsengracht (Princes) and Keizersgracht (Imperial Canal).  Also here are the Anne Frank House and the graceful Westerkerk church. To the left there is the Jordaan district, on the right side is De Plantage with the Amsterdam Zoo and Jodenbuyurt (Jewish Quarter), where the great Rembrandt lived.
