One of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, Bolsward, which square this webcam shows well, is located in the province of Friesland in the north of the country. Bolsward was mentioned in the 7th century, and the oldest buildings date back to the 13th century. The city status Bolsward, where the online broadcast is coming from, got in 1455.
The most interesting sights of the city where the webcam is aimed are: the magnificent old town with its picturesque canals, the Friesian brewery and the distillery, where in 1860 the Sonnema Berenburg herbal drink appeared. In addition, there are many national monuments in Bolsward that are under state protection.
There are many religious attractions in the city, whose Market Square is visible online, from example, St. Martin's Church of the 15th century, located at a distance of 400 meters from the city hall. After the Reformation and World War II, the church was significantly destroyed. The final restoration was carried out in the 80s of the 20th century. Currently, the Church of St. Martin is a Protestant church and one of the key Gothic religious monuments of Friesland. The Frisian counts and the national poet Gysbert Japiks rest in the temple.
Another interesting attraction and the oldest building of Bolsward, the center of which is shown by a live camera, is the former 13th century Broerekerk Church, which stands on Broereplein Square. After a fire in 1980, the temple turned into ruins. Today, over the ruins of the church there is a transparent roof in the shape of the original roof of the building. Thus, the church fit into the city landscape, preserving the view of the surviving remains.
The Saint Francis church of 1933 is considered an important state monument of the city with this online camera. In 1934 it was consecrated. The interior of the temple is decorated by new stained-glass windows with fragments from previously demolished churches, standing on the site of the newly built church. Inside there is a wooden sculpture of the virgin with a baby of the 13th century, the most valuable thing that keeps the Saint Francis church.

The main entrance of the temple is represented by three figures holding scales, an anchor and a book. A little higher there are one more figure and a sundial. The roof of the town hall is a graceful octagonal tower with a carillon. At the end of the 19th century, restoration work was carried out in the town hall. Now it has a small museum of Bolsward history.
An interesting historical attraction of Bolsward, which you see online, is the De Klaver mill, built in the beginning of 19th century. In 1980, with the support of the Friesland Mill Foundation, it was restored. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the mill has been used by the local pumping station in case of flooding.
