There are many religious attractions in the city, whose Market Square is visible online, from example, St. Martin's Church of the 15th century, located at a distance of 400 meters from the city hall. After the Reformation and World War II, the church was significantly destroyed. The final restoration was carried out in the 80s of the 20th century. Currently, the Church of St. Martin is a Protestant church and one of the key Gothic religious monuments of Friesland. The Frisian counts and the national poet Gysbert Japiks rest in the temple.

After a fire in 1980, the temple turned into ruins. Today, over the ruins of the church there is a transparent roof in the shape of the original roof of the building. Thus, the church fit into the city landscape, preserving the view of the surviving remains.
