The key attraction of the Castle Square is the Royal Castle of the 14th century, which is perfectly visible in our webcam online. In the 14th century the castle has a wooden structure in the Gothic style. Later it was reconstructed and turned into a stone palace.
In the past the capital of Poland was the city of Krakow. With the change of the capital city to the Warsaw, the castle received the royal residence status and had a name of Royal Castle. Also, the fortress served as legislative and executive authorities meeting place.
The first kind of Poland - Sigismund III ordered to rebuild the palace. So, the castle got the early Baroque style view.
Now, the Royal Castle, which is perfectly visible in our live webcam, has unique expositions, luxurious rooms, hall of the Senate and, of course, royal chambers.
Every year in the Royal Castle there are musical performances, concerts, theatrical performances of the history and culture of Poland 18-19 centuries.
In the middle of the Castle Square there is a column erected in honor of the first King Sigismund III, which you see in the live broadcast just to the left. This monument has a second place in popularity among all the monuments of Warsaw, losing first place to the Little Mermaid (Mermaid of Warsaw) - the oldest monument of the city.
