Portocolom on our online live camera is one of the most picturesque cities on the east coast of Palma de Mallorca is an exact copy of the Greek or Italian town. This fishing village got its name in honor of the famous seafarer Christopher Columbus, who, perhaps, has been born here.
Portocolom is quite popular place among locals. People like to come here from Spain. The village was hardly affected by the tourist infrastructure: a comfortable and large natural harbor with many fishing and pleasure boats, light houses along the embankment. Tourists are mostly capturing the beaches of Cala Marsal – the winner of the Blue Flag award, the miniature beach of S’Arenal Petit and the larger beach S’Arenal Grand. The sand on the beaches is very soft and pleasant, and the depth of the seabed is very small, gradually deepening from the shore. A Pleasure boats are cruising between the beaches.
In addition to the main entertainment, the most popular of which is diving, you can organize fishing on the beach. Portocolom – the venue of the triathlon competitions in Mallorca. Excursions, especially a tour of the monasteries are very popular here. There are five of them in the vicinity.
Curiously, till the end of the 19th century, Portocolom was a major wine supplier to France. Close to the 20th century the phylloxera (insect pest) destroyed all the vineyards and the supply of wine ceased. Now basically this village is a peaceful resort town, although in the Pla and Llevant areas, which are not far from the resort area, there are several vineyards with excursions and tasting.
For holidays in Portocolom better to rent a car in order to easily inspect the resort areas in the east. Among the attractions there is the Mondragó Nature Reserve and a beautiful sandstone in the Santanyí village. The main historical landmark in Portocolom is Naveta – the space of the oldest burial place for people lived here about 2000 years before our era. You can visit San Salvador Sanctuary and Santueri Castle in the same area. There are catacombs a little further north.
Portoсolom has a lot of great restaurants, but the best of them is Sa Llotja. It is located near the pier. It serves freshly caught fish, pre-cooked it in the best traditions of the island.
Tourists who come here last weekend of June will certainly get to the Gastronomic Fair, when 15 restaurants of the city offer their best dishes, among which one is always present – the Catalan octopus.
For fans of nightlife, the most popular place is the Fidel Club, named after Fidel Castro. This is the most fashionable nightlife.
