Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia, where the online stream comes from, is the main fiefdom of the Ukrainian Cossacks. The city with this webcam, attracts tourists with two key attractions: the Khortytsia Island, where Zaporozhian Cossacks lived in the 16th century, and the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station, a giant dam, a special “calling card” of the city.

Let’s talk about these important places in more detail. The largest island on the Dnieper River, Khortytsya, is famous not only for its size, but also for the fact that it was on its territory in the 16th century that one of the Zaporizhian Sichs was located (the military and administrative center of the Dnieper lower Cossacks from the 16th to the 18th century). On the neighboring there is small island of Malaya Khortitsa, the town of Dmitry “Baida” Vishnevetsky, which is considered the prototype of the Sich, has been preserved.

In the northern part of Khortitsa, a picturesque panorama of the DneproGES dam and rocks opens up. Today, there are nine settlements on the island, where about 2,000 people live. Khortytsia Island, and the adjacent rocks and islets, belong to the National Reserve.

The famous Zaporizhian giant oak grows in the village of Verkhnyaya Khortytsya. The diameter of its crown was previously 63 m, and the circumference of the trunk – 6 m 32 cm. At present, the giant is almost all dry: only one living branch remains. The dried oak branches are supported by a metal structure. According to legend, it was under this unusual tree that the Cossacks wrote their famous letter to the Turkish Sultan.

Of the museums in Zaporizhzhia, which square shown in the online live camera, it is worth mentioning the National Reserve Khortytsia with the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks History Museum. It is interesting to visit the Regional Museum of Local Lore and Art, the private Museum of the History of Weapons, the Museum of Old Automotive and Military Equipment.
