Located near Lyme Bay, the small coastal city of Lyme Regis, the harbour area of which is shown by  webcam, belongs to the English county of Dorset. Interestingly, the coast of the city is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Lime Regis, where the online camera is located, is the birthplace of Sir George Somers, the founder of the British colony in Bermuda (Somers Islands).

In the 13th century, the city with this  live stream, got a title of the largest British port. So, the word “Regis” was added to the name of the city of Lyme.
Becoming an important trade port with France, as well as a shipbuilding center, Lyme Regis in the webcam has gained great importance. About 100 ships were built in the city from 1780 to 1850.

In the 15th century, Lyme Regis, which harbour you can see in the online camera, acquired the Cobb breakwater, created an artificial harbor. The Cobb was repeatedly destroyed by storms and rebuilt by the city’s authorities. The building that monitored its condition is currently owned by the Maritime Museum.

Since 2005 in Lyme Regis with this online broadcast it has been carried out a huge work to strengthen the coastline and protect the city from coastal erosion.

At the beginning of the 21st century, in a city whose sea promenade shows the web camera, was restored the 1340 mill, which works today, producing flour. Next to the mill, there where the old chapel of St. Mary and the Holy Spirits, there is a “leper well”. About 700 years ago, there was a hospital for skin diseases patients, called by locals the leper – leprosy.

Every year in the city in the online camera a large number of events are held. For example, a great carnival and regatta, as well as an essential history festival in honor of the famous paleontologist Mary Anning.

Since the railway was built in the city in 1903, tourism began to develop actively in Lyme Regis online.

In 1980, in Lyme Regis, whose harbour is shown online, was filmed “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” movie with Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons.
