The webcam overlooking the city of Modena shows the center of the province of the Emilia-Romagna region, one of the largest in Italy. It is located on the Val Padana plains, along the Po valley, between the Secchia and Panaro rivers and the northern Apennines.

Modena, where the live stream is coming from, is the capital of Romanesque art and the ideal point between Northern and Southern Italy.

Of the religious monuments of the city in the online camera, the most famous is the Cathedral of Modena, built in 1099 on the site of the grave of St. Geminianus. The attraction is completely covered with white marble and decorated with numerous sculptures. On the facade there are bas-reliefs depicting the history of Genesis and sculptures decorating the central gate of the cathedral, the work of the artist Viligelmo. The southern gates are also quite interesting – Porta dei Principi and Porta della Pescheria, decorated with scenes from the life of St. Geminianus and animal figures. The interior of the cathedral is presented in the form of a three-nave basilica with a presbytery and a crypt under it. Among the works preserved in the cathedral, an important place is occupied by the wooden choir of the 15th century and the terracotta sculptural group by Guido Mazzoni in the crypt.

The main square of Modena, where the webcam is located – Piazza Grande, is paved with cobblestones. There is the bell tower of Ghirlandina (or Torre Civica). On the north side, it is bounded by the cathedral, from the east – by the Town Hall. In the distant past, Piazza Grande played an important role in city life – a weekly Saturday market was held here. But in 1931 it was moved to another place. Currently, in the northeast corner of the square in front of the monumental staircase of the Town Hall lies Preda Ringadora – a massive stone used for public performances.

The town hall is located on the northern and eastern part of Piazza Grande and is the result of the restructuring of several buildings built in different periods of the 17th and 18th centuries.

In addition to the above-mentioned sights, in Modena, the view of which this webcam shows online, the Ducal Palace,which construction began in 1634 according to the project of Bartolomeo Avanzini, is worth attention. This building is a vivid example of civil architecture of the 18th century and is one of the largest Baroque palaces in Italy. The elegant façade is decorated with three rows of windows topped with a balustrade with statues. The central gate leads to the so-called Court of Honors, from where the monumental Staircase of Honors, decorated with Roman statues, rises to the halls of the palace. Among the rooms, the Throne Room, the Golden Cabinet and the Hall of Honor stand out. Today, the palace is the training center of the Military Academy.
