Praza da Quintana

The square of Praza da Quintana in the webcam is the second largest square in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. It is located on two levels filled with cafes and street musicians. The lower part of the square in the online camera is known as Quintana de los Muertos (Square of Death): there was a cemetery on its territory, and the upper one, on the contrary, is called Quintana de los Vivos (Square of the Living).

In the western part of Quintana Square in the online broadcast, there is the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which you can also see on the left in the web camera. The entrance to the cathedral is decorated with 24 biblical Romanesque sculptures created by maestro Mateo at the end of the 12th century. On the east side of the square in live broadcast there are the walls of the monastery Mosteiro de San Paio de Antealtares , founded in the 9th century for monks looking after the relics of Santiago (now a monastery). Its museum, the Museo de Arte Sacra, houses the Ara de Antealtares altarpiece, a reworked Roman gravestone that was used as the original altarpiece.

Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela, where the live stream is coming from, is an important city in northern Spain. In addition to being the capital of Galicia, one of the autonomous regions of the country. It is here that the final stop for thousands of pilgrims following the path of Camino de Santiago is located. The stone architecture of Santiago de Compostela in the live camera is amazing: you will meet its elements at every step, admiring the arcade streets, ancient churches and monasteries.

In Santiago, whose historical center you see in the online camera, there is a magical aura that attracts pilgrims (and tourists) with bagpipes that echo through the streets.

The main square of the city in the live broadcast is the Plaza del Obradoiro, where one of the most striking monuments of the city is located: the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (Catedral de Santiago de Compostela) – a massive Romanesque-Gothic-Baroque cathedral and the most important symbol of the Catholic faith.

All the main monuments of Santiago de Compostela in the webcam are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In addition to the historical sights listed above, the city where the live stream is from has excellent restaurants and tapas bars where you can taste delicious seafood snacks and local wine.

Galicia

Galicia, where the webcam is located, is the most extreme region of Spain in the north-west of the country. In the south, the region has borders with Portugal, in the west it is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and in the north by the waters of the Cantabrian Sea.

The province, streamed online, has many mountain ranges forming a labyrinth of valleys and gorges, mountains and hills. Capes are especially located along the coastline of the Rias Altas and Rias Baixas regions. Sandy beaches on the coasts of Galicia in the webcam are bordered by high steep cliffs. Here is Cape Estaca de Bares – the northernmost point of Spain, as well as Cabo del Mundo – the highest steep coast in Europe.

Climate

Galicia and the city of Santiago de Compostela itself, which you see in the webcam, is under the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, causing a mild climate with rainy winters and moderately warm summers. The average temperature in the summer season is 27 – 34 C. The average temperature in winter is 14 – 22 C.

Weather forecast in Santiago de Compostela for 7 days is available on our website online.
