This webcam shows the charming city center of Mechelen in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. The live camera is located in the Schepenhuis building, a historic stone building that now houses the city museum and tourist office.

The live broadcast shows the town hall and the Schoenmarkt, opposite the statue of Margaret of Austria, installed on the main square of the Grote Markt (Great Market Square).

The monument is next to the 13th century St. Rumbold’s Cathedral and its famous St. Rumbold’s Tower, an important tourist attraction in the city.

Nearby there is the oldest building in the city – the House of City Councilors, built in 1374.

The most famous architectural structure of the city is the aforementioned Gothic Cathedral of St. Rumbold. This is where the best carillon (musical instrument with bells) in Europe is kept. It consists of 49 bells, cast at different times. The largest weighs almost 9 tons. The second carillon, which is located here, is less famous, although it also has of 49 bells. From the observation deck of the cathedral, you can see the city of Antwerp and the main attraction of Brussels – the Atomium.

Another religious monument of Mechelen, where the webcam is located, is the Cathedral of St. John of the 15th century, which altar was decorated by Rubens. In the temple you can see the painting “Adoration of the Magi”.

The Palace of Margaret of Austria is a vivid example of late Gothic and early Renaissance.

Another significant place in Mechelen, which square is shown by an online camera, is the Busleyden Court (Hof van Busleyden), erected at the beginning of the 16th century. It houses the Municipal Museum of Mechelen, whose exhibits demonstrate the history of the city and tell about its prominent figures.

There are so many architectural and historical attractions in Mechelen that it seems that the city itself is one continuous museum. In addition to the above points of interest, Mechelen has an excellent zoo, a railway museum, a toy museum and two clock museums.
