Bistrița

The city of Bistrita with the live webcam is an ancient city of Transylvania region, located on the banks of the Bistrita River. The city and its suborbs are rich in picturesque natural landscapes, attracting tourists.

Founded in the early 13th century, the city was located at the intersection of trade routes of the Middle Ages. Rapidly developing and prosperous, Bistrita, whose mountain pass is perfectly visible in this web camera, from the 14th century had the opportunity to hold annual trade fairs tere. The city was surrounded by fortress walls, perfectly defended from enemies. In the 19th century there were five large fires occurred in Bistrita. The fortress walls were destroyed. 

At the end of the 19th century a railroad was built in Bistrita. The city became an industrial center in the early 20th century.  There where a big development of ceramics and metal industry. By the end of the 20th century, the city, whose beautiful mountain panorama is perfectly dismantled by the web camera, entered in the list of cities-industrial leaders of Transylvania.

There are many attractions in Bistrita, for example, a Gothic style Lutheran church, built in the 15th century. The church is located on the central square and, thanks to the high spire, is considered the center’s visual center. There is another Catholic church stands nearby.  There are some medieval wall’s constructions have survived till nowadays.

There are also Orthodox church and the museum of Bistrita nearby with unique exhibits from the past times.

In addition to historical attractions, Bistrita is proud of its parks, squares and avenues. The city is located at the foot of the picturesque Bârgău Mountains, covered with dense vegetation. Particularly famous is the mountain  Tihuta pass, which panorama is visible in our live webcam.

There are scattered pretty village in the vicinity of Bistrita with an interesting exhibitions and museums. Also, there is a Rodna mountains with the Sângeorz-Băi climatic resort outside of the city . Here is the National Natural Park with the deepest cave in Romania. A little higher, in the mountains, there are 2 glacial lakes Lala Mare and Lala Mică. Next to Bistrita, there is Colibita lake with a beautiful waterfall.

It will be interesting to travel from Bistrita to the wine valley and get acquainted with the grape cultivation here.

Many of us can not imagine the Transylvania region without the famous Count Dracula!  At the entrance to the town of Bistrita, on a high hill, there is the hotel «Castle Dracula», demonstrating the beauty of the Tihuta Pass.
