The main part of the church in our live broadcast was built in the 14th century BC, in times of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. The temple was built in honor of the god Amon-Ra, his wife Mut and son Khonsu. Tutankhamun, Horemheb and Ramses II also contributed to the construction of the complex. Later a temple dedicated to Alexander the Great appeared here.
Luxor Temple is a large-scale construction. In ancient times there was a large settlement here. The complex has a length of 260 meters.
At the time of the Pharaohs, the course of the temple stood 6 giant statues of Ramses II, but to this day only 2 of them have survived. A beautiful pink granite obelisk of 25 meters high also perfectly preserved. Tourists usually pass the corridor with 14 columns. Each column has images of scenes from the Amon-Ra life.
The Luxor Temple for many centuries was buried under tons of sand. And Sheikh Yusuf al-Haggag Mosque was built over it. In the middle of the 19th century only, scientists began to dig an ancient Egyptian temple, clearly visible in our online webcam.
