Plaza de Cort
In this webcam in front of you there is the Cort Square – Plaza de Cort or Plaça de Cort, located in the city of Palma de Mallorca. As can be clearly seen in the online camera, the area is quite small, but despite this, it is one of the main squares of the historical center of Palma. The Cort, shown in live broadcast connects Sant Domingo Street, Royal Palace Street, Santa Eulalia Square with the church of the same name, and Colom Street, which connects Cort Square in this webcam with the central square of Palma – Plaza Mayor.
The online camera on Plaza de Cort shows well how popular this place is in the city. The live broadcast shows historic buildings with striking facades that surround the square. The ground floors of some of them are occupied by cafes and restaurants with tables on the street.
There is large old olive tree grows in the center of the square with the webcam. But it does not fall into the lens of the online camera.
The main building located on the Cort Square in the live broadcast is the Cort Building, i.e. The Town Hall or City Hall (Palma City Council, Ayuntamiento de Palma de Mallorca, Ajuntament de Palma), which gave the name to the entire square – Cort (translated from Catalan „court“). The town hall, built between1649-1680, has three floors and a Baroque facade with Gothic and Mannerist elements.
The main facade of the City Council looks out directly onto Plaza de Cort in this live stream. It contains such interesting elements as a large wooden roof that overhangs the city hall, a long balcony with six windows and a central door, and a Figuera clock (Rellotge d’en Figuera).
To the Town Hall, from the street of the Royal Palace (Carrer del Palau Reial), is adjacent the Palace of the Council of Mallorca (Palau del Consell / Consell de Mallorca). The Gothic Revival building consists of two floors and an attic. It was built to house the old provincial council between the 19th and 20th centuries. The Council Palace is notable for its four towers with four intermediate columns, crowned with miniature sculptures, as well as architectural elements and small decorative details. In the foyer of the council, where the entrance is open, there is a grand staircase leading to the second floor: there is a gallery and a conference room decorated with rich ornaments.
On the corner of Plaza de Cort in this webcam and Carrer de Sant Domingo, there is a five-story Building Can Corbella, made in the Spanish-Moorish style with Arabic and Christian elements. During the construction of the building, three adjacent houses were combined to create a new single facade.
Historic buildings with commercial premises on the ground floors, as well as cafes and shops are located along the narrow 120 meter street of Sant Domingo.
