Nice

Nice is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of France. It is somewhat smaller than the capital of the region – Marseilles, where there is the online camera on Baltic Live Cam also. Nice is part of the French Riviera, which is wonderfully captured here on online cams. Other famous towns on the French Riviera include the capital – Marseilles, Cannes, and Saint Tropez. Neighbouring country for high rollers, Monaco, is also within driving distance of Nice. The population of Nice is around 1.2 million inhabitants.

According to historians, Nice was founded in 350 BC by the inhabitants of Marseilles. Its name is derived from the name of the goddess Nike, which means victory. Over the centuries, the importance of Nice as a port town became more and more evident. Nice has been involved in several wars over the years and has allied with Italy on many occasions. In 1860, Nice became a territory of France, a state in which it has remained ever since. In October 16, 1979, 23 people were killed in a tsunami that hit the coast of Nice.

Close to the Old town, shown on this web camera is the Place Massena. The Plaza is where everyone gets together in the evening and where street artists perform. At night, the sculptures on the square lights up in different colors which is lovely to behold.

Nice has been the home to many influential artists such as Henri Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, Modigliani. This beautiful city and its year-round good weather also drew many writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald.

There is another promenade that is quite different from the Promenade du Paillon – Promenade de Anglais. It runs along the beachfront and is the perfect place to view the Mediterranean Sea and its pebble beach. You can follow the promenade all the way to the port where you can catch a boat to Saint Tropez and other islands close to the French Riviera.

If you are into sport activities, there are several tours that you can take by bicycle or even by Segway. You can even do a bike tour combined with some wine tasting in Nice.
