Pico

This webcam shows the village and municipality of Portugal – Lajes do Pico, located on the island of Pico, one of the Azores Islands. The island of Pico, from where the online broadcast is conducted, is located in the center of the Azores, at a distance of 7 km east of the island of Faial and 15 km south of the island of São Jorge. The length of Pico, whose coast is shown by a webcam, is 42 km and the width is 15 km.

On this island there is the highest point in Portugal – Pico volcano peak (2351 m), listed in the Guinness Book of Records as a mountain with the largest underwater part. The mountain is crowned by Pico Alto – a circular crater with a perimeter of 700 m and a depth of 30 m. Since 1972, Pico volcano is a National Reserve.

The unique island is listed by UNESCO for its magnificent vineyards and unusual landscape.

The climate on the island of Pico online, is subtropical oceanic, with an average air temperature in winter of +15 C, in summer +22 C. Summer is usually hot but not stuffy. Rains mostly fall from September to April. The best time for the swimming season is from May to September. During this period, the water temperature is between +20 C – +23 C.
