Russian Cruiser Aurora
The cruiser “Aurora”, which is clearly visible on our live stream webcam, became world famous after firing a single volley that signaled a start of the October Revolution of 1917 in Russia. The ship was an active participant in the defense of Leningrad (present St. Petersburg) during the Great Patriotic War (World War II).
At the end of the war in 1945, the outstanding ship that you see in our webcam online began to serve as a training ship and a museum, having risen to its rightful place on the Neva River in St. Petersburg. “Aurora” became an important symbol of the Russian navy, a striking example of cultural and historical heritage and a popular tourist destination.
The official title as a ship-monument the cruiser got in August 30, 1960. The final transformation into a ship –symbol occurred in 1967, on day of the 50th October Revolution of 1917 anniversary. “Aurora” made a blank shot, like 50 years ago, once more.
After the Soviet Union collapse, in modern Russia on July 26, 1992 St. Andrew’s flag was set on the cruiser “Aurora” on our web camera. Great ship began to serve as part of the Russian Navy.
In 18 years, in 2010, the Aurora was expelled from the Navy and presented to the naval museum not losing the title of a military ship.
