Lake Burley Griffin

In the webcam Lake Burley Griffin is a decoration of Canberra, located in the center of the Australian capital. The reservoir in the online camera is of artificial origin and appeared in 1964. The length of the lake in live broadcast is 11 km, its widest part stretches for 1.2 km. The average depth is 4 meters, and the maximum is 18, next to the Skrivener Dam.

The lake, shown on the webcam, is named after Walter Burley Griffin, an American architect who was involved in the development of Canberra in the early 20th century.

On the shores of Burley Griffin in an online camera stand: the National Gallery, the National Museum, the State Library, the Australian National University and the Supreme Court, and the Houses of Parliament are a five-minute walk away.

As seen in the live stream, the lake is surrounded by parks and squares. The reservoir is popular with fans of various sports and fishing. A huge park area near Lake Burley Griffin in the online broadcast occupies 3139 sq km. The most popular recreational areas are Commonwealth Park, Weston Park, Kings Park and Greenville Park, Lennox Gardens and Commonwealth Square.

A bike path runs around the lake in the web camera. On the shores of Burley Griffin, there are occasional live fireworks and a Skyfire fireworks show since 1988. In the summer season, the reservoir is the venue for triathlon and aquathlon competitions.

In 1970, on Lake Burley Griffin in a webcam, the James Cook Memorial was unveiled (in honor of the 200th anniversary of the captain’s maiden voyage along the east coast of Australia). The memorial is a fountain in the center of the reservoir and a model of the globe at Regatta Point.

Canberra

Canberra, where the live stream takes place, is the capital of Australia. This is a city with a lot of monuments and memorials. The most famous is the Australian War Memorial, erected in honor of the soldiers who participated in the wars of the Commonwealth of Australia. For outdoor enthusiasts, the scenic Black Mountain is located close to the city’s downtown area. This natural landmark belongs to the National Parks of Canberra. At the top of the Black Mountain there is a telecommunication tower, 195 meters high. On the top tier of the tower, there is an observation deck and a revolving restaurant – the most popular meeting place for all Canberra residents.
