Basel

Basel is the second largest city in Switzerland, where the live streaming takes place. It is here the most important higher education institutions of the country are concentrated.

Besides universities, Basel that you see online, is rich in museums, modern art galleries, medieval architecture, great bars, clubs and restaurants.

On the southwestern bank of the Rhine River, which is captured by the webcam, is the historic city center – Big Basel (Grossbasel) – a long pedestrian zone. In the center stands the city symbol – Basel Cathedral.

The very heart of old Basel with this web camera, is the Marktplatz (Market Square) with the old Town Hall. Not far away there is the former Barfüssenkirche church, which now houses the Historical Museum. Nearby there is the Fishmarkt square with the most beautiful Basel fountain, crowned with the figure of the Mother of God.

Another attraction of Basel, the main bridge of which is shown by the live camera, is the Spalentor gate made of red sandstone. Nearby there is the tallest building in Switzerland – Messeturm or Market Tower with a height of 150 m.

The Theatre Square with a unique sculpture of Richard Cherry, the beautiful Church of St. Elizabeth and the Tinguelyego fountain deserves great attention.

Basel’s striking architectural gems, where the live stream is coming from, are the Bank House at Aeschenplatz and the Zentralstellwerk Bassel SBB building.

Walking around Basel, which center is well demonstrated by this live camera, it is interesting to inspect the Alzacka gate, walk along the picturesque Viaduktstrasse Street, and look into the concrete church of St. Anthony.

At a distance of 12 km from Basel in this live feed lies the archaeological excavations of Augusta Raurica with more than 20 ancient city sights. Among them there is one of the perfectly preserved antique amphitheaters north of the Alps.
