Basilica, perfectly visible in the live broadcast, located in the building of the Church of St. Michael, on the territory of the former Benedictine monastery (Mondsee Abbey) in the small alpine town of Mondsee.

The Basilica of St. Michael, from where the online stream is conducted, has three naves. Built in the ancient Romanesque style, the basilica was rebuilt in the late Gothic style at the end of the 15th century. In 1730, a baroque facade was added also. This is the second largest church in Upper Austria.

The Basilica of St. Michael, perfectly demonstrated online, is one of the most famous attractions in the Upper Austria region.

The history of the village of Mondsee began in 748, when a Benedictine monastery was built on the shores of Mondsee Lake. It is the first monastery in Upper Austria.

The former Gothic monastery that you see on a webcam, today is more amazing than ever. There are two towers rising up for 52 meters into the sky.
The Basilica of Mondsee in the online live camera has gained international fame due to the filming the wedding scene in the “Sounds of Music” movie with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. So, more than 200,000 people visit the temple every year. This is the one of the most photographed churches in the whole world.

Pope John Paul II in 2005 awarded the church in this live camera the status of a basilica. In 2009, the church was opened again after a large-scale restoration, which ended with giving the church “Austrian Monument of the Year” title.

Mondsee

The city of Mondsee with the cathedral in online camera, is a community located in the federal state of Upper Austria near the border with the federal land of Salzburg.

The main attraction of Mondsee is the largest Gothic churches in Austria – the Church of St. Michael, which is shown by the webcam. In addition, Mondsee houses the largest sandy beach complex on the lake in the historical Salzkammergut region – Alpenseebad Mondsee (20,000 sq.m).

Mondsee Lake

One of the main natural attractions of the city of Mondsee is its magnificent Mondsee Lake, located in the south of the Salzkammergut. The length of the lake is 10 km, the width is 2 km. In summer, the water in the pond reaches + 26С – this is the warmest lake in the Salzkamergut.

Along Mondsee Lake there are such well-known resorts as: Mondsee and St. Lorenz.

Mondsee Lake is a great place for windsurfing and fishing. Also you can go sailing, water skiing, diving, play badminton and beach volleyball, ride a horse, ride mountain bicycles and roller skates, play golf, mini golf, tennis, squash, archery, bowling.

Concerts, carnivals, theater performances are held on the shores of Mondsee Lake throughout the year. For example, “Mondseer Jedermann”, “Mondsee Days”, water skiing shows and other performances.
