The city in this webcam is appeared in 1627, and nowadays it is a lively village surrounded by lakes, rivers and picturesque hills, which also fall into the lens of the live camera.
One of the most important historical sites in Iisalmi online, is the Karelian Orthodox Cultural Center with frescoes, stained glass windows, statues, icons and chapels left over from the war. Nearby there is the Saint Elijah Church with unique for Northern Europe wall paintings.

Since the city, shown in the webcam, is located at the “intersection of two large lake systems, this is a paradise for water lovers in summer time. In winter, you can go skiing or snowmobiling along the 200 km trail in the small ski resort of Paloisvuori. There are excellent slopes from the high mountains for sledding, as well as large ski slopes.
At a short distance from Iisalmi, which panorama is perfectly visible in this online camera, there is the Talaskangas nature reserve with more than 12 km of incredible scenic trails. Owls, wood grouses, woodpeckers, flying squirrels, wolves, bears and lynxes live on the territory of the natural park.
Another national park, Tiilikkajärvi, is known for its sandy beaches, nature trails and opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.
Not far from Iisalmi, where the webcam is located, is the town of Sonkajärvi with amazingly beautiful stone churches.
