Port of Serifos

This webcam is located in the port of the island of Serifos,  in the Aegean Sea and belonging to the Cyclades. The capital of the island is the city of Chora. Other large settlements are Kutalas, Megalo Livadi, Kentarchos and Ganema.

Serifos, from where the live broadcast is conducted, is covered with bare, undulating mountains with small fertile valleys. Closer to the coast there are the mountains are an endless chain of rocks bordering openwork bays.

Sea vessels moor to the well protected from the winds Serifos wharf in the online camera. From the port in the webcam begins a long beach in the form of a horseshoe.

Of the bright sights of Serifos in the live broadcast, the monastery of the Archangels near the village of Galani is reminiscent of a fortress.

From the settlement of Panagia, named after the unique monument of the 10th century located here – the Church of the Virgin, a panorama of the entire island with this webcam opens.

In the village of Koutalas, the ruins of Kastro tis Grias (old woman’s fortress), towers from the Hellenistic period and an iron ore loading device from the 11th century have been preserved. Also here is another interesting attraction of the island,  where the online broadcast is conducted from – the cave of the Cyclops (Spilia Kiklopa).

All the beaches of Serifos, broadcasted online, are very diverse: with blue and turquoise water, deep and shallow, shady and sunny. The most popular are Lia, Koutalas, Vagia, Ganema, Kalo Abeli, Psili Ammos, Sekamia.

Traveling around the island in a webcam, you should definitely visit the capital – the city of Chora. Here are snow-white houses, a Venetian castle, churches of St. Barbara, Christ the Savior, St. Constantine, St. John.

Hora is divided into Upper (Ano Chora) and Lower (Kato Chora). Agios Athanasios and the neoclassical city hall flaunt in the central square of Pano Piazza in Ano Chora.

Kato Chora is a Cycladic labyrinth of white-painted streets lined with flower-filled houses and courtyards.

If you are fond of visiting museums, then while on Serifos shown in the online camera, be sure to check out the open-air Mining Museum. Climbing the loading ladder in the rock overlooking Megalo Livadi Bay, you can catch the sun’s rays at sunset and see the mountain slopes covered with rust.

A must-see is the 16th-century Taxiarchon Monastery – a real medieval castle with battlements, loopholes and high walls. From the height of its terrace, a unique view of the surroundings of Serifos in the webcam opens.

It is interesting to climb Cape Kyklopas, from where you get a stunning view of the southwestern side of the island in the online camera.

The climate on the island of Serifos is typically temperate Mediterranean. Summer is hot and dry. The air temperature in July reaches +34C. Winter is mild and short. In January it is never colder than +9C.
