In the webcam there is the beach of the resort town of Westende, the most popular vacation spot for citizens in summer. The village, where the live broadcast comes from, is located in the Flanders region of the province of West Flanders.

The highlight of Westende, where the live camera is located, is the Bellevue Grand Hotel, also called the Rotunda.

In the past, Testerp Island was off the Belgian coast in the webcam, and Westende was its easternmost village in the live feed.

Flanders

Flanders or the Flemish region, where the Westende beach is located in the web camera, belongs to Belgium, famous for its historical and cultural attractions: museums and architecture.

In Gena, you can ride a boat right through the city, in the center of which there is a real castle of the Middle Ages.

Leuven (Louvain) is the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant. Its main institution is the Catholic University of Leuven. The city also became famous for its brewing, the worldwide fame of which was brought by the Stella Artois variety. The main sights of the city are the Leuven Town Hall, the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, the Great Beguinage, the Grote Markt Square, the Botanical Garden, the Church of St. Michael.

Art lovers come to Flanders in this webcam to admire the paintings of van Eyck and Memling, Rubens and Brueghel, visit the best museums in the world and see with their own eyes the beautiful architecture of the Middle Ages.

The inhabitants of Flanders, where the beach online is located, are known for their cultural traditions, seven of which are included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Basically, these are holidays originating from the Middle Ages. The largest are:

• winter fair and livestock market in Sint–Lievens–Houtem around Christmas;
• The Krakelingen and Tonnekensbrand festival, which marks the end of winter, is held in Geraardsbergen;
• oil carnival in the city of Aalst;
• Procession of the Holy Blood in Bruges, which takes place on Ascension Day;
• A costumed procession of giant Ommenanga dolls is organized every year in Brussels at the beginning of July, in Dendermonde once every 10 years and in Mechelen once every 25 years.
