Cēsis

There is a panoramic view in a PTZ webcam of the small, ancient and very beautiful city of Cēsis, dating back over 800 years. Cēsis, that you see online, is located among the amazing landscapes of coniferous forests in the area of the Gauja National Park, on the banks of the picturesque Gauja River.

The most famous landmark of the city in this live broadcast is the ruins of the medieval Venden Castle (Cēsis Castle) of 1206. In the 13th century, it was a wooden citadel where Vendians lived (representatives of West Slavic, Baltic and Finno-Ugric origin). Later, the Venden Castle was rebuilt and served as the residence of the Livonian Order Masters. During this period, Cēsis Castle was the most protected fortress in Baltic.

At the end of the 18th century, Venden Castle had a new owner – Count Zivers. So, a beautiful park was established here and a brewery.

Since the middle of the 20th century, the Cēsis Historical Museum and exhibition hall has been located inside the New Cēsis Castle. Such an interesting historical event as a knightly tournament periodically held here.

The St. John church and the elements of the fortress wall were well preserved until the 21st century. There are burial places of the Livonian Order masters and its knights in the temple.

The old town of Cēsis, where the live stream is conducted from, has a narrow streets paved with cobblestones. On Rigas Street there are buildings constructed in the 18th and early 19th century, these are houses No. 16, 24, 15 and 47.

Besides the historical sights, Cēsis, shown in this webcam, is rich in natural places. Especially beautiful is the Gauja River, located in a picturesque valley. In the past, it was on the banks of the Gauja where palaces start to appear. In the second part of the 19th century, the city in this online camera began to turn into a resort with the summer resorts by the Gauja River, the most famous of them is Cīrulīši, next to which there is a spring with healing water.

Not far from Cēsis, the view of which is shown by a live webcam, there are two ski resorts: Žагagarkalns and Ozolkalns. In winter, both of them are very popular for fans of skiing and snowboarding. The complexes offer trails for beginners, difficult slopes for experienced skiers and snowboarders, equipment rental, instructor services, and cafes. There is also a 100-meter toboggan run. Families with children will not be bored: Volvo Children’s Park is open on the territory of ski centers.
