Bran Castle

Admire the imposing Bran Castle (Castelul Bran) in this real-time HD webcam from Bran commune in Brasov district, Romania. Outside the country, it is known as Dracula’s Castle, a popular tourist destination in the historic Transylvania region. The castle is connected with the house of the Dracula character from the novel of the same name. Although Dracula’s author Bram Stoker has never visited Romania, the hilltop fortress is the only one in Transylvania that resembles castle of Dracula in its characteristics.

The magnificent medieval structure shown in the online camera is open to visitors. It houses a museum with furniture and other items of Maria of Romania – the last Queen of Romania who lived here.

Bran Castle or “Dracula’s Castle”, where the live broadcast is coming from, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Romania. It was erected at the beginning of the 13th century on the ancient trade route from Hungarian Transylvania to the then capital of Wallachia – the city of Targovishte.

At the gate of the castle, where the webcam is located, there is a stone cross with a snake carved on it, coiled into a ring. It is a symbol of the Knightly Order of the Dragon, established in the Holy Roman Empire to oppose the rule of Muslims. Among its members are Vlad II Draco, the father of the notorious Dracula.

In the small courtyard of the citadel, in the online camera, there is a deep well with a crown of white stone decorated with bas-reliefs. According to the legend this is the only entrance to the mystical dungeons.

The interior of Bran Castle, which rises on a hill in live camera, there is an intricate maze of rooms, stairs and secret passages. The premises contain carved tables, chairs, beds, knightly armor, weapons, dishes, and forged chandeliers are fixed under the ceiling. Furnace cladding consists of unique tiles. There is a special room in the castle where the instruments of torture are kept, among which there is a terrible chair with sharp spikes on the seat, back and armrests.

Bran Castle, perfectly shown in the online camera, has been in the possession of many owners. After the proclamation of Greater Romania, this striking landmark was presented as a gift to Queen Mary. Thus Bran became the royal residence. Today the castle is a kind of historical open-air museum.
