Râșnov Citadel

The live broadcast is conducted from the city of Râșnov – a small town between two historical regions – Wallachia and Transylvania, 15 km from the city of Brasov and not far from the legendary castle of Count Dracula – Bran.

The Râșnov fortress, which you see on the webcam, was built by the knights of the Teutonic Order in the 13th century, marking the beginning of the foundation of the city. Conveniently located (on a hill) fortress in the online camera was captured only once by the Transylvanian prince Gabriel Bathory in the 16th century. The siege of the 17th century was unsuccessful. Later, the castle in live broadcast began to flourish, and around it a settlement appeared and developed, which grew into the city of Râșnov.

The Râșnov citadel you see in real time is small, behind its walls there are about 30 houses, a church, a school and other buildings, which is typical for an ordinary village, and not for a fortified castle. The height of the polygon-shaped fortress walls is 5 meters, each wall is crowned with a watchtower. There are also almost destroyed bastions, as well as a drawbridge over the moat. There is a well in the center of the Râșnov fortress in the webcam – this is the deepest well in Transylvania (147 m).

On the highest of the watchtowers of the Râșnov Citadel in the live camera, there is an observation deck, from which a very beautiful view of Râșnov and its surroundings opens. On a cloudless day, it is easy to see the snow-capped Kodlja mountain in the distance.

It is easy to get to the city of Râșnov with its legendary fortress online: you can take a train from Brasov to Zarnesti, which runs every two hours. You can also take a bus that departs every half hour.

It is better to plan a visit to the Râșnov fortress online, along with an excursion, during which it is interesting to listen to the guide’s stories about the history of the citadel. In summer, the castle is open to the public from 9:00 to 19:00, and in winter from 9:00 to 17:00. The best time to travel is June or early September, as medieval festivals take place here.

In addition to historical events in Râșnov, where there is an online broadcast from, modern events are held here: the ok-festival Pro Istoria Fest and the festival of historical cinema.
