Klyuchevskaya Sopka Volcano

In the background of our webcam you can clearly see the highest and very active Eurasian volcano – Klyuchevskaya Sopka, located in a small village of Kamchatka. The height of the volcano is approximately 4649 – 4850 m.

The powerful volcano, shown by online camera, has appeared about 7000 years ago. This giant has continued to grow, being covered with new layers.

In level of activity, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, where the live stream is from, takes the second place after the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. The name of the volcano in webcam was given by the town of Klyuchi and the Klyuchyovka River located nearby.

Klyuchevskaya Sopkain the live camera, is rich in geothermal springs.

The volcano shown by the online camera is located in the Klyuchevskaya Group of Volcanoes, Far East Kamchatka volcanic region. Sopka, together with more than 120 volcanoes of Kamchatka is included in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

All volcanoes of the Kamchatka Territory, as also Klyuchevskaya Sopka, which shown online, included in the list of natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The external view of the volcano in the webcam, resembles a regular shape ice cone with a crater up to 600 m in diameter. The base of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka cone reaches 15 km. The titan has more than 70 minor craters formed recently.

Observation of the volcano in  live camera began in 1697. Over the past 300 years, more than 50 eruptions have been recorded. Only in the 20th century Klyuchevskaya Sopka was activated 15 times! The giant constantly throws out ashes. Serious eruptions happen once every 25 years.

Klyuchi

Settlement of Klyuchi, with Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in owebcam, is located in the center of Kamchatka Krai, 390 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where there is also online camera.

There are two volcanoes in the Klyuchi village: Klyuchevskaya Sopka, where live stream is taking place and another active Shiveluch volcano (about 3300 m high), located 45 kilometers to the north.

In the Klyuchi village there is the Institute of Volcanology, operating since 1935.
