Unity Square
This live webcam shows the Venības Square (Unity Square), the newest of all the squares in Cēsis. The first mention of the Unity Square, which is being broadcasting online, appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was called the Convention Square.
Vienības Laukums in the live camera, got its modern name in 1925 at the same time when the Victory Monument was appeared (erected in memory of the soldiers dead for the independence of Latvia). On the basis of the obelisk in this webcam there is the inscription: “The sun rose from the sword.”
Online you can see the roadway that runs along Unity Square. Nearby there are hotels, cafes, shops, banks, court and other important city buildings.
The Vienības Square, which you see in live camera, is often used as a venue for various events, such as the City Festival, New Year’s Eve, parades and concerts.
The ancient city of Cēsis, where this live webcam is located, is rich in various historical, architectural, cultural and natural attractions.
Cēsis Medieval Castle
The medieval castle of Cēsis was built around 1214. It is the place where the old city was laid. The castle acquired its real appearance in the 16th century after numerous renovations and restructures. Now Cēsis Medieval Castle is an ensemble of well-preserved ruins, attracting tourists from all over the world.
Cēsis Castle Park
Near the Cesis Castle, there is a beautiful park of city, from where there is an online broadcast on the Baltic Live Cam website. Cēsis Castle Park appeared in 1812. There is winter ski mountain point of Riekstukalns. The highlight of the castle park is a pond located at the lowest point of the relief. In the center of this reservoir there is a sculpture – fountain “Fisherman with a catfish.”
Cēsis New Castle
The Cēsis New Castle has the territory of the historical center and Livonian Order medieval ruins. Since 1949, the Cēsis History and Art Museum has been operating here. An important attraction of the New Castle is the neo-Gothic Lademaher tower, which offers a picturesque view of the castle ruins, Cēsis in webcam, and the Gauja National Park.
St. John’s Church
The Church of St. John of the 13th century, was serving as the temple of the Livonian Order.It is an equally significant architectural structure after a medieval castle. Inside there are the burial places of masters, spiritual mentors and knights of the order.
Rose Square
Rožu Laukums Square, which also has a live stream on the Baltic Live Cam website, is a former market square. There are a punishment pillar and a well have been preserved here. Rose Square is a popular meeting place. Also annually, the square meets an urban Christmas tree.
Līvu Square
At the beginning of the 13th century, Līvu Square was the only market square of Cēsis in the online footage. There is Countess House (Princess House) nearby. Now, the main decoration of Livonian Square is the fountain, where in the 13th century there was the Lejas Škimbegs well.
Cēsis Christ Transfiguration Orthodox Church
Christ Transfiguration Orthodox Church of Cēsis, the Unity Square of which this webcam shows, is located next to the New Cēsis Castle.
In this Orthodox Church there is the painting “The Resurrection of Christ” carefully preserved, and the walls are covered with paintings by I. Keller.
Round gates
During the Middle Ages in Cēsis there were 5 gates. Some of them in the 14-15th century were located at the beginning of the modern Rīgas Street. Nowadays, the reconstructed foundation and aboveground fragments have been preserved here. The gate symbolically connects the old city and Unity Square, which is shown in the online live camera.
Ungurmuiža Manor
This harmonious baroque ensemble of wooden buildings surrounded by a park with giant oaks and lindens dates back to the 18th century.
Rauna castle ruins
The first stone of Rauna castle, the main residence of the archbishop, was laid in 1262. In the beginning of the 16th century it was greatly expanded: a medieval city appeared here. By the end of the 17th century, all the towers of the Rauna Citadel were destroyed and only the main buildings were preserved.
