Elburg

The live camera, located in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands, shows Elburg online. Despite its small size, the city is full of historical monuments and buildings (the city wall and moats have been preserved).

The history of Elburg,  where the online broadcast is conducted from, dates back to 796. The city was built according to the “gulden snede” principle, i.e. golden ratio.

In the Middle Ages from 1367 Elburg, shown online, was part of the Hanseatic League, a cooperative community of merchants from different cities who together protected and expanded their trade. Like other Hanseatic cities, Elburg, which you see in the web camera, flourished at that time (this can still be seen today). In the city where the live camera is located, there many buildings of that time, for example, Gruithuis, where they sold herbs for making beer, and Vischpoort, a medieval defensive tower.

Until the end of World War II, Elburg, which you see in live camera, remained the center of agriculture and fishing.

Elburg online is a great place for lovers of water sports and nature. Here you can rent a traditional sailboat, which was used for fishing in the past, and go on a small cruise. It is also possible to rent kayaks and canoes on Lake Veluwemeer and go kitesurfing or windsurfing and, of course, swimming. The beautiful city of Elburg, shown in the live cam, is an ideal place for those who love nature and water sports.

Despite the fact that the city where the live stream is from is small, it has many museums worth visiting. The 15th century Agnieten Convent or Saint Agnes Monastery, now houses the Elburg Museum. It hosts both permanent and temporary exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city. Casemates, one of the oldest surviving gun cellars and a wall house, where the poorest citizens of Elburg lived, are also part of the Elburg Museum.

Tourists visiting Elburg, feel like they have returned to the Middle Ages. Old walls with beautiful trees, narrow streets and paved sidewalks create an atmosphere where every guest of the city in the webcam would like to walk.

To top it all, we would like to emphasize that in Elburg, the center of which you can see in the online camera, there are many monumental buildings, museums, restaurants and various entertainment opportunities. This makes Elburg a great place not only for living, but also for a short trip.

The most interesting sights in the city center are ‘‘de Vischpoort’’, the Elburg Museum, the Sjoel Museum, the Forgery Museum, the Rope Shipyard Museum, de botterwerf (harbour with old fishing boats) and the herb garden.
