Market Square in Krosno
In this webcam, you can clearly see the small but very cozy Market Square of the 16th century, located in the town of Krosno. On the square online, there are historical buildings, fountain, town hall tower and a beautiful Farny Church of the Holy Trinity (Kościół farny pw. Trójcy Święte), and of course, there are many restaurants, cafes, several banks and shops.
The market square of the Old Town of Krosno, where the live camera is directed to, forms the center of the old town complex. In the past, social, economic and administrative life was concentrated here. Around it there are multi-storey historical houses of the 16-17 centuries with specific arcades that fall into the lens of a live web camera.
The most interesting old apartment buildings online, include: a corner house at the exit from Franciskanska Street (Rynek 5), formerly called “curia pretoriana”. It was the seat of the city council in the 16th century, the so-called “kamienica wójtowska” (city hall); (Rynek 7) with well-preserved four stone columns and a rich Renaissance portal. On the northern facade there is the apartment building No.27, owned by Wojciech (Adalbert) Portius, a wealthy Scottish citizen, city councilor and founder of many architectural and artistic projects in the city (the house was built in the 16th and rebuilt in the 17th centuries).
In 1999-2001 Archaeologists from the Subcarpathian Museum (Muzeum Podkarpackie) made sensational archaeological discoveries in this area. During the cobbled surface replacement of the Market Square in the online camera, the remains of stone and wooden constructions and buildings, merchant shops and counters, as well as water supply and city sewerage were found.
Currently, the outlines of the Renaissance town hall and the medieval stone tower of the town hall are visible on the market courtyard covering. It is the real archaeological sensation. Several artifacts testifying to the origins of Krosno in the webcam, found during excavations, were included in the collection of the Subcarpathian Museum.
