Sopelana
Sopelana, where the live broadcast takes place from, is a municipality in Spain, part of the province of Vizcaya in the autonomous community of Basque Country.
Vizcaya
The province of Vizcaya (Bizkaia), whose beach you see in the online camera, is located in the Basque Country, in northern Spain. This is the most densely populated area of the Autonomous Community. Particularly interesting are the towns of Vizcaya, which retain their traditional rural character with a rich heritage: Durango, Elorrio, Otxandio, Orduña and Balmaceda.

Basque Country

This autonomous community is divided into three provinces: Vizcaya, where this webcam is located, Alava and Gipuzkoa. Most of the population of the Basque Country lives in Vizcaya, whose center is the fashionable and cultural city of Bilbao. The main city of the province of Gipuzkoa is the youth and surfer San Sebastian, which is also shown online on the Baltic Live Cam website. Alava is occupied by nature reserves and authentic settlements.
The best beaches in the Basque Country are located in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the vicinity of San Sebastian, for example La Concha. The longest beach in Gipuzkoa a is Zarautz (2.5 km long).
In Bilbao, the beach areas are out of town. The most popular and closest to it is the sandy Las Arenas.
The Basque Country, which coast you see in the online live camera, is rich in national parks. In the neighborhood of Bilbao there is the most famous biosphere park in the community – Urdaibai. There are forests, hills, the picturesque Atlantic coast, as well as miniature settlements that preserve historical monuments. The shooting of the popular TV series “Game of Thrones” took place in the “Urdaibai” park.
Another park Urkiola, is located on the slopes of the Duranguesado mountain range, and the scenic Ruta del Flysch hiking trail runs near the town of Dela in the province of Gipuzkoa.
San Sebastian boasts surfer beaches as well as the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the Miramar Palace.
The capital of the Basque Country – Victoria-Gasteiz is famous for its architecture. In the center of the city stands the 14th century Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria with paintings by Rubens. Famous people of the city are buried in the church of San Pedro the Apostle. At a distance of 9 km from Vitoria-Gasteiz, the 11th century Nuestra Señora de Estibaliz temple rises.
A striking landmark of Bilbao is the Guggenheim Museum, located in a building that looks like a huge flower and a spaceship. The Way of Saint James goes through Bilbao. There are many cathedrals in the city, such as the Gothic Cathedral of St. James from the 14th century and the Church of San Nicolas de Bari.
