Piazza della Liberta
Webcam Piazza della Liberta shows the main square of the city of Macerata. On its territory there are important historical buildings: the Government Palace (Palazzo del Governo), the Church of San Paolo (la chiesa di San Paolo), the Clock Tower (la Torre dell’Orologio), the Lauro Rossi Theatre (Teatro Lauro Rossi), Palazzo del Comune, Loggia dei Mercanti.
Freedom Square, which you see in the online camera, is located in the historic center of the city, in an area where traffic was recently restricted.
In fact, at Piazza della Liberta in the live stream, there are many buildings – most important in Macerata from a historical and architectural point of view. Along the north side of the square in the webcam, stands the Government Palace, a huge brick building that once consisted of the Palazzo del Podestà and the Palazzo dei Priori. Now it houses the offices of the Police Headquarters and the Prefecture. Its marble portal dates back to 1509, and its pointed arches are some of the few elements that have survived the various changes it has undergone over the centuries.
On the east side of Piazza della Liberta in this live camera there is the Church of San Paolo, designed by Ambrogio Mazenta from Milan and built between 1623 and 1655. This church has a single-nave interior and is illuminated by drum windows located in the dome. The interiors of the temple, located near the square online, are decorated with works by Francesco Boniforti, representing the Teachers of the Church (Dottori della Chiesa) and the frescoes in the apse made by the Ancona artist Pier Simone Fanelli and are dedicated to the Storie di San Paolo. On the other hand, near the altar on the right, there is a canvas depicting the Holy Trinity and Saints Barnabis (Santissima Trinità e Santi Barnabiti) by Sebastiano Conca of 1742. The church currently hosts art exhibitions.
Macerata
Macerata, where the online broadcast is conducted from, is the capital of the province of the same name in the Italian region of Marche. The historical center of the city with the web camera, is located on a hill between the Chienti and Potenza rivers.
On the main square of Macerata – Piazza della Liberta, shown in the online live camera, there is an old Loggia dei Mercanti of the Renaissance era with two-level arched galleries. From it starts Corso della Repubblica Street, leading to another square – Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where the city museum and art gallery with works of Carlo Crivelli in the chic Palazzo Ricci today. Another curious museum in the city of Macerata in live broadcast is the Museum of Carriages.
Along Corso Matteotti Street there are a number of amazing palaces, including the Palazzo dei diamanti – the Diamond Palace.
From the religious monuments of the city of Macerata, where the online broadcast is coming from, the neoclassical Cathedral of Macerata 1771-1790 stands out. Next to it lie the ruins of a 15th century Gothic bell tower. The interior of the cathedral was designed by Cosimo Morelli. To the south of the city, whose square is visible online, is the Romanesque church of San Claudio al Chienti, built in the 14th century on the remains of an older temple.
In addition to the above sights in Macerata, shown in the live cam, the Palazzo Buonaccorsi palace, built in the first half of the 18th century for the Count Raimondo Buonaccorsi and his son Cardinal Simone, is worth noticing. The residential floor of the building attracts attention with its Hall of the Aeneid, painted with frescoes by Rambaldi, Dardani and Solimena and decorated with paintings by Garzi and Giovanni Joseffo dal Sole.
To the north of the city in this online camera, in the village of Villa Potenza, it is interesting to see the ruins of the ancient Roman settlement of Helvia Rechina, destroyed by the Visigoths.
