Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi

There is live HD broadcast of the magnificent Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (Basilica di San Francesco d’Assisi), located on a hillside in Assisi, central Italy.

The beautiful basilica in the webcam is an important pilgrimage site in the country with the crypt of St. Francis, the founder of the Franciscan monastic order, who was born in Assisi in 1182. In 2000, this religious structure was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The construction of the Romanesque and Italian Gothic styles of this monument online, has two basilicas: the Upper Basilica with impressive works of art by famous Italian artists and the Lower Basilica, where the saint’s crypt is located.

Assisi, which is streamed live, is the spiritual capital of the Italian region of Umbria and the hometown of Saint Francis and Saint Clara, the founder of the Order of Poor Women. It is beautifully located on the slopes of Mount Subasio.

Besides the Basilica of St. Francis, where the online camera is directed to, the city of Assisi is famous for the first monastery of the Franciscan order, the Sacro Convento, founded here. For a long period, it was in the possession of the Minorites. Today the monastery is used as a theological seminary and university.

In Assisi, one of the most striking sights of which is shown in the live webcam, there is an interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site – a Gothic monastery church (1228 – 1253) with the relics of St. Francis, available for viewing by pilgrims. In the interior of the religious building there are beautiful canvases of the medieval school, most of which are painted by Cimabue and Giotto. The frescoes of the “Paradise Arch” depict allegories of the order’s virtues.

Since Roman antiquity, Assisi in the live stream has preserved the remarkable portico of the Temple of Minerva, as well as the ruins and elements of the aqueduct and Etruscan city walls. Medieval fortifications date back to the 14th century. Also, the city and its surroundings keep many other graceful temples: Santa Chiara of the 13th century with the tomb of Saint Clara of Assisi, the Romanesque Cathedral of Saint Rufinus of the 12th century and the grandiose Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli , located 3 km from Assisi online, in the city of the same name. This temple appeared in 1569. After a strong earthquake, a significant part of the church was destroyed, but then restored to its original form. Currently, the Cathedral of Santa Maria degli Angeli attracts thousands of pilgrims. Of particular interest is the miniature, but quite popular Porziuncola church – the cradle of the Franciscan monastic order.
