Apatity

The city of Apatity, where the online stream is conducted from, is located beyond the Arctic Circle, on the banks of the Belaya River, among the Khibiny Mountains near Lake Imandra. It is the second largest city in the Murmansk region after Murmansk. Apatity got the city status in 1966.

The city, which area you see in the webcam, is located on a flat plain with the highest point of “Sparrow Mountain”. One side of the city is closed by the Khibiny Mountains, the other – the open one is located on the side of Lake Imandra.

The most attractive tourist spots in the city in this live camera are the Khibiny Mountains and Lake Imandra.

Those who want to enjoy the northern lights in all its glory come also here.

In the Tik-Guba village near Apatity, on the banks of the Imandra there is a tourist base and beach. Nearby the city there is a botanical natural monument “Cedars and Larches Khibin.” Also, guests are attracted by the natural-historical regional state monument of  “Yokostrovskoye Kintische”. Expedition tours are organized to this legendary Sami graveyard.

In Apatity, the center of which you can see in the webcam, there is an amazing Geological rock garden – the open air exhibition of rock and mineral samples. In addition to this exposition, we recommend to visit the Geological Museum.

Of particular interest is the “Decorative and Facing Stones of the Kola Peninsula” exhibition.

Apatity, well shown online, houses three active churches – the Holy Assumption, Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors Russian, the Panagia Portaitissa of Our Lady.

In addition, here there are every year competition in “Polar Ball” sports ballroom dancing. During the Stone Flower exhibition, you can buy not only beautiful stone products, but also rare collection items.

In summer, fans of outdoor activities in Apatity in the web camera, have the opportunity to go rafting on Mountain Rivers and lakes. Bike tours and city tours are also popular.

In winter, snowmobile safaris, snowshoeing and skiing are in great demand. Hiking in the Khibiny Mountains with an overnight stay in a traditional Sami snow shelter are considered a bright “highlight”. In addition, with the winter onset, the Ice Sculpture Gallery occupies its rightful place in the city center, where the live stream comes from.

The Khibinium Amusement Park provides an opportunity to ride a dog sled, spend time in a rope park and shoot in a dash from a crossbow and a bow.

At the Pegasus Zoo you can go horseback riding lessons. Also, you can ride horses in the equestrian clubs of the city.

On the Lights “Imandra” recreation center there is the Far North people ethnographic village. Here you will be offered Sami sleigh rides, deer feeding, tea drinking in a plague near the outbreak.

Climate

Winter n Apatity, which you see in the webcam online, is soft and long, about 5-7 months. During this period, the average temperature is about -13C. Summer is cool and short, with an average temperature of + 14C. The polar day lasts from May 20 to July 27, and the polar night – from December 15 to 28.
