The bay in the webcam surrounds the territory – the “San Francisco Bay Area” with such large cities as San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland.
Waters from the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, as well as from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, flows into Suisun Bay, which crosses the Carquinez Strait and meets the Napa River at the entrance to San Pablo Bay. That, in turn, connects from the south side with the San Francisco Bay in an online camera. Further, the bay itself meets the Pacific Ocean through the Golden Gate Strait. Often the entire group of listed bays is called the San Francisco Bay. In 2012, on February 2, San Francisco was recognized as a Gulf of International Importance.
The San Francisco Bay, which you see in the web camera, covers from 1000 to 4000 km 2, depending on the type of site (bay, estuary, wetland).
On the territory of the bay in live camera, there are five large islands. So, the largest island – Alameda, appeared in 1901. Currently, it is a suburban village. Another island, Angela, formerly known as “West of Ellis Island”, is now a state park. The mountainous island of Yerba Buena is riddled with a tunnel connecting east and west San Francisco. Here is the Oakland Bay Bridge. In the northern part of the San Francisco Bay in live broadcast, there is an artificially created flat “treasure island”, the site of the “Golden Gate” International Exhibition in 1939. Alcatraz lies in the center of the bay in the online camera: here is the famous federal prison, which has become a popular tourist attraction. And the last island – Mare, located in the northern part of the bay, is rather a peninsula.
It is generally accepted that the San Francisco Bay, which the online camera is aimed at, is the curvature of the earth’s crust between the faults of San Andreas in the west and Hayward in the east. But the exact nature of its origin has not yet been revealed.
Regardless of its urban and industrial character, the San Francisco Bay online and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta are the most significant ecological habitats in California.
Nine bridges are thrown across the bay in the online camera: Golden Gate Bridge, Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, Dumbarton Bridge, Carquinez Bridge, Benicia Bridge, Antioch Bridge, Railway Dumbarton Bridge.

The golf, which you see in the online broadcast, is a popular destination for yachting enthusiasts.
Parks and protected areas surround the Bay in live camera: Eden Landing Conservation Area, Hayward Regional Shoreline, Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, Hayward Shoreline Interpretation Center, Crown Memorial Public Beach, Eastshore State Park, Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, Brooks Island Regional Runaway and Cesar Chavez Park.
